Are you teaching summer school this year? These 3 math summer school activities will help you plan for a fun and engaging summer session!
1. Beachy Base 10
This activity is a fan favorite in my summer school classes. It is simple yet engaging for students! Students pull a card with a number 1-120 on it. Then, they build the number using base 10 blocks and break the number apart with tens and ones. This activity is a great way to keep your students practicing essential place value skills before expanding upon them next school year.
2. 120 Puzzles
Another favorite is also simple yet engaging. I have had classes argue over who gets a puzzle first. 120 puzzles are summer themed 120 charts that the teacher cuts apart into a puzzle. Students use their number patterns and sequencing skills to put the puzzle back together.
3. Sunny Subtraction
Sunny Subtraction is a fun, summer themed activity where students practice subtraction fluency within 120 by matching the top and bottom of pineapples together. This activity is great for many different skills: subtraction concepts, subtraction strategies, subtraction without regrouping, etc.
