Fall Ideas for Math Centers

Fall is here! If you know me, you know I love a good classroom theme. I always switch things out in my classroom monthly to help keep students excited about what they are working on. I switch out centers monthly, our book display, and add some decor here and there. It is such an easy way for me to plan and keep track of what needs redone, replaced, or switched up. I’m going to give you some ideas for sprucing up your math centers this fall!

1. September Math Centers

In my classroom, September is our first full month of school and we are not running our full daily routine yet. I use September to establish routines and procedures. I love these math centers because they are skills my first graders already know so instead of working on content we can focus on the routines and procedures. We start practicing how to get to centers, where they are, where to find supplies, how to clean up, working together, all the things. These centers introduce fall themes like apples, leaves, acorns, etc. My students love seeing what each new game is about.

2. Halloween Ideas for Math Centers

Once October rolls around, we are officially up and running our math centers. This is their first month with new content in their math centers. I love using this center pack because it is the same format as the September centers. Using something they are already familiar with helps with their independence. In October, everything in our classroom is Halloween, pumpkins, bats, etc. My students love it. It is such an easy and fun way to keep them engaged and excited about their center work. I love to add fun clipart to our daily slides or worksheets. Here is a link to some of my favorite Halloween clipart. Clipart is a cheap, easy and quick way to make things themed!

3. November Math Center Ideas

November is the final month for fall celebrations in my classroom. Our November is filled with all things turkey, leaves, scarecrows, etc. This math center pack is full of fun fall themed games for students to work on. I love these centers sets because they are so versatile. I use them for independent work, partner work, and for small group lessons or practice.

If you want to save money by purchasing these center packs for the full school year you can check out the yearlong bundle here. I use one center set per month introducing 2 new activities each week. My students do these activities at their “Hands On” center which they visit twice a week. This means most months I have some extra centers we didn’t get to that I use elsewhere. It also gives me the choice to leave some out if I feel like my students aren’t ready or don’t need to review that skill.
