Holiday Crafts for Elementary Students

Those few days leading into Christmas break can be a doozy, let us help you out with these holiday crafts for elementary students! Depending on when Christmas falls, my school district usually has a 2-3 day week before break. Those 2-3 days can feel like 2-3 weeks. One of my tried and true ways to make it through is by doing crafts with my students!

Santa Craft for Elementary Students

Our December Craft Kit is a perfect time filler because the craft itself can last from 30-45 minutes depending on supplies students have. Then include a writing piece and you’ve filled an hour chunk of time. I love using these craft kits as lessons. We will read a book, have a discussion, maybe make an anchor chart and then jump into the craft and writing prompt. It keeps my students practicing writing standards while having fun doing holiday themed things.

Christmas Writing Crafts for Elementary Students

If every student in your class celebrates Christmas, this pack includes some fun Christmas themed crafts and writing prompts. This cookie craft is one of my students favorites! I usually pair this with a fun Christmas Read Aloud like Dasher or The Night Before Christmas.

Another Holiday Craft that my students love is the Christmas tree. In the image below, you will notice that the tree is simply colored. However, I normally go all out and break out the paint, pom-poms, sequences, etc. This one can keep my students busy for an hour alone. Then, I pair it with the writing prompt about Christmas traditions which is one of my favorite discussions to have! Students love sharing what their families do for the holiday and learning about what other people/countries do.

Gingerbread Holiday Crafts for Elementary Students

Gingerbread is a popular December theme in the elementary classroom. I love including a Gingerbread unit. I spend about a week reading different variations of the Gingerbread man, compare and contrasting the stories and hitting on multiple reading and writing standards. If I have a year where I have students who do not celebrate Christmas, I extend our time on Gingerbread because it’s an engaging holiday activity without ties to Christmas. At the close of our unit, we make this gingerbread craft for our hallway display. Finally, the last day of the unit we make Gingerbread Houses. This is a full morning excursion but so worth it!
